Quarantine and Chill: Relationships During the Quarantine
For the first time in history, everyone’s at home, on quarantine and chill. Relationships during the quarantine run the gamut, but most of us are doing the same thing, eating and digesting social media.
Unless you’re living under a bridge with no wi-fi, you’ve seen the plethora of #DontRushChallenge videos that are floating around the net. These videos started with a group of women, presumably sitting around their homes bored, taking advantage of quarantine and chill. They came up with the idea to create a cute video showcasing them before and after looking busted and then beautiful. Not ones to shy away from a challenge, a group of my blogger besties and I decided to make one of our own, but featuring the realness of us and our lives as mothers. Here’s the video we created with our little ones, and it had mild popularity on Instagram.
Black Love Breaks the Net

Much to our delight, the internetz wanted more! We decided to create a version with our baes and call it the #UpgradeYouChallenge with Beyonce’s Upgrade You as the accompanying track. Our display of black love has been heralded by our peers and landed our video on @theshaderoom where it racked up nearly 2 million views and numerous positive engagements.
Since we fractured the ‘net w/ our #upgradeyouchallenge video, I felt it was only fitting to keep it real with y’all in the love dept. (😉 cause that’s what I do!) Folks are out here cooped up, staring in each other’s faces of 24 hours on end! It’s hard out here for a pimp, and a wife, and a mom, and a quarantine bae!
Humor is always the best medicine, and on a quarantine, the world needs plenty of meds. I always strive to “serve mom realness with a dash of sass,” so here go my thoughts on “Quarantine Baes”:
In my opinion, there are three types of quarantine baes…
1. #Quarantineandchill Bae
The ones who are absolutely vibing with each other. Taking full advantage of this time locked inside. They’re binge watching Tiger King, coordinating TikTok videos, even spending time in the kitchen preparing meals. They’re motivating each other to use the time wisely for fitness and introspection. These baes will be slightly thicker by year’s end either from idle snacking or expecting a little “Coronaldo” or “Quaran’tina” in January. Love loves there.
2. On My Last Nerve Bae
The ones who are absolutely sick of each other’s face. These baes are noticing that one bae chews his food audibly, Mister Ed-esque, another bae is tired of pretending that the cooking’s good. Because face it, everyone’s a cook now, just not GOOD cooks!
Wigs snatched, edges un-slicked, hairlines and fades un-faded. Toots are no longer cute… they STANK. The mid-morning, mid-day, and mid-evening walks around the block have turn into hours long treks. Cell phones mysteriously now have 6 digit lock codes (and let’s just call it, the digits do not comprise bae’s b-day…) Love is escaping.
Then there’s…
3. Mommy and Daddy Bae

They’re struggling to make it to 8pm every night when the kids go down. They wait up to watch Tiger King, but are too tired to make it past Carole Baskin’s who-done-it episode. They’re juggling between teacher, principal, disciplinarian, and custodian; the belt is removed from dad’s belt loops and holds a permanent seat at the dining room table. Bent but not broke. Love loves there, it’s unconditional and it looks like beards and hair bonnets, unruly kinks, tees and joggers (edit: and no bras).
Which baes are you and the boo?
My bae Matt and I are equal parts of all three; where do y’all think I pulled the inspo? (Except for the cell phone code part – that’s fighting words…) 😂
I want to hear how your relationships are going! How do you quarantine and chill and how are your relationships during the quarantine? Meet me in the comments with your choice 1, 2, or 3!
And tag your fav boos so we can see what they are working with too! ❤️
